6 Signs Your Pool Heater Needs Repair

Catch these problems early to avoid a full replacement. If you notice any of these, give us a call.

Water Won't Reach Set Temperature

If your heater runs but the pool never reaches the set temp, you may have a failing heat exchanger, low gas pressure, or a refrigerant leak (heat pumps).

Heater Cycles On and Off Rapidly

Short cycling usually indicates a flow issue, dirty filter, clogged bypass valve, or a faulty pressure switch that needs replacement.

Error Codes on Display

Modern heaters display diagnostic codes. Common ones include ignition failure (IF), high limit (HL), and flow switch errors (FL). We diagnose all brands.

Strange Noises or Smells

Banging, popping, or soot smell from a gas heater can signal combustion issues. A sulfur smell may indicate a gas leak — shut off immediately and call us.

Visible Corrosion or Water Leaks

Salt systems accelerate heater corrosion. Leaking from the heat exchanger or headers usually means it's time for replacement rather than repair.

Heater Won't Turn On At All

Could be as simple as a tripped breaker or as complex as a failed control board. Our RAIL-licensed techs diagnose before recommending any parts.

How We Handle Heater Repair

01

Diagnostic Assessment

Our RAIL-licensed tech inspects the full heater system — gas supply, electrical connections, heat exchanger, control board, and water flow — to pinpoint the exact issue.

02

Honest Recommendation

We tell you what's actually wrong and whether repair or replacement makes more financial sense. No pressure, no unnecessary parts swaps.

03

Fast Repair or Replacement

Common repairs are completed same-visit. If parts are needed, we order direct from the manufacturer and schedule installation within days, not weeks.
